Translators establish translation standards, translate Quick Guides and Infographics, and keep translated content updated.
Wangsheng Translator On-Boarding Checklist
- Introduce yourself in the Discord channels

Responsibilities
Translators are responsible for establishing a translation key and style guide for their respective language before any project translation can be finished. After which, Infographics and Quick Guides are the priority for translations.
Wangsheng Translators are currently responsible for:
- Establishing a Translation Key and Style Guide for their respective language prior to beginning official translations.
- Updating their team on their work and updating the Translator Queue and TCT Queue as necessary.
- Translating Infographics and Quick Guides after establishing the Translation Key and Style Guide.
- Following the KQM GI Translation Standards.
- Properly communicating with guide staff leads (Co-Heads, Vice Heads, Managing Translators) regarding any issues they may be experiencing.
Translators are not responsible for moderation, writing Quick Guides or Extended Guides in English. They are also not necessarily responsible for transcribing guides to the website or for designing Infographics, but Translators who are interested in the task may participate.
Initial Trial Period for Assistant Translators
All Translators undergo a trial period of at least 3 weeks during which their contributions and team participation are assessed. At the end of the trial period, successful Assistant Translators are promoted to the Wangsheng Translator role.
We expect that as long as you're willing to be a team player and pitch in, you will complete the trial period successfully! If you have any questions or concerns about the process, please contact polomo.
Translator Leadership
Translator Heads
@polomo is the head for the Translator team. He works more directly with the Managing Translators, sends announcements, and focuses on the team's direction. Please feel free to reach out to @polomo if you need anything or have any questions, especially regarding logistics, hiatuses, moderation, or KQM as a whole.
@auntyplays is a vice-head for the Translator team. She works more directly with other Managing Translators and translation teams: she transcribes Quick Guides and Infographics, and makes newly released Infographics and Quick Guides available for translation. Please reach out to @auntyplays for any questions regarding the aforementioned topics or anything else!
Managing Translators
The Managing Translator is the go-to person for a language’s translation team. They are a Translator's point of contact for their language and helps keep their language team on track.
They are responsible for the following:
- Recruiting additional staff for their target language and approving or denying applicants.
- Overseeing the implementation of a style guide and translation key in their target language.
- Communicating with their language’s Translators regarding work that needs to be done and assigning projects if necessary.
- Resolving conflicts regarding specific issues with translation (e.g., a dispute over the exact translation of a term or phrase).
- Other managerial duties that have arisen with the development of the pillar.
Managing Translators do not have Admin or Moderation privileges and should contact the appropriate staff when needed.
Establishing the Translation Process
All languages' translation teams must have strong guidelines to ensure consistent and high-quality translations for each language. Teams for new languages need to do the following prior to beginning official translations:
- Get Started – The Managing Translator will create a copy of the KQM Genshin Impact Translation Key and Style Guide Template for their respective language.
- Establish Translation Standards – Translators for that language will begin providing translations for terms in the translation key section and establishing grammar, syntax, punctuation, and other style rules in the style guide section.
- Discuss Potential Translation Issues Professionally – Discussion regarding translation best practices will take place in
#tc-translatorsor the language’s respective work thread. - Codify the Translation Key and Style Guide – When the translation key and style guide for a language is near completion, at least two Translators (including the Managing Translator) will need to provide final comments. The Managing Translator will finalize the translation key and style guide.
- Update As Needed – New mechanics, artifact sets, and content are consistently added to the game. Translators will need to update their translation key as necessary.
Current established teams have already finished this.
Translating Quick Guides
We want to prioritize translating Quick Guides as soon as the translation key and style guide are established. On-banner characters and upcoming birthdays should also be prioritized.
The translation process is as follows:
The Russian Translation team does not utilize ClickUp, because it's blocked in Russia. Instead, Russian guide statuses get documented in the Translator Queue.
- Get Organized – Identify which character Quick Guide you want to translate and assign yourself to the ClickUp task. Tasks available for translation should have the status
TRANSLATE ME. - Locate the Translation Document – A Managing Editor should have already made the translation document and added it to the description of the primary task.
- Update ClickUp – Make sure you update the status of your translation task, subtasks, and checklist as you go along.
- Begin Translating the Quick Guide – Now that you’re all organized and set up, you can begin translating the Quick Guide! The plain-text rip should already be formatted in a way conducive to both translation and transcription to the website.
- Alert Your Team for Verification – Each Quick Guide translation needs two verifications from other Translators. Change the status of the primary task in ClickUp to
VERIFY ME. - Verify – two other Translators needd to verify that the Translation accurately represents the original English text and that the Translation is free of errors per the language’s grammatical norms and Translation Key and Style Guide.
- Update ClickUp Status to
TRANSCRIBE ME– Once the translation is verified, change the status of the primary task toTRANSCRIBE MEand contact@polomoor@auntyplaysso they can make the transcription request in the KQM Staff Server. - A Publisher Transcribes the Translated Quick Guide – Publishers will assign themselves to the transcription task and port translated content to the website. Translators who are interested in working with WordPress can also perform this task.
- Quality Check the Transcription – Publishers share the transcription in the associated language’s work thread. Since the Publisher may not know the language, they will not be able to readily see if they made any errors. The original Translator for that Quick Guide needs to quality-check that everything is properly copy-pasted.
- Publish Transcription – The Publisher publishes the transcription after it is checked on the website.
- Update as Needed – People may provide feedback in in the
#feedback-herethread, or there may be future updates on the character’s Quick Guide in English. Translators should highlight the text in the document that needs to be changed with a comment so a transcriber can easily check off as they go.
Translators may access KQM's editor website through the author guest account for quality checks on the transcription, as detailed in Website Resources.
Points
Translators receive points for the work they complete. These points can be spent on Discord Nitro and in-game gifts like Welkin, Battle Pass, and Primogems (or HSR equivalents). After successfully completing your trial, you will become more informed about our points system and how it works. All work completed during your trial period can be retroactively claimed for points, so don't worry!
Adjusting As Needed
