Editors

Editors are responsible for managing guide work as well as editing/verifying guides.

Welcome to the KQM HSR TC team! This onboarding document outlines the responsibilities of the Editor role, supplies you with a list of resources, and provides checklists you can go through to complete onboarding, guide writing, and verification checks.

  • Please make sure you are familiarized with ClickUp TC Queue through the ClickUp Introduction and add your name to the TC Staff Contact Sheet within (DM @cynematic your email for access). Keep the ClickUp TC Queue up to date whenever you work on or intend to work on something, as this will help everyone see what is being worked on and where they can best help.
  • TC is meant to be a collaborative effort. That means that both your fellow peers as well as the public should be welcomed to work on projects that are not of a sensitive nature. With that said, please recognize other’s work and treat others with respect. Being right does not mean that you have to be abrasive.
  • If a problem arises and cannot be resolved amongst staff, first take it to the relevant TC Vice Head before contacting the TC Head.

Onboarding Checklist

Follow this check-list and complete each task carefully:

  1. Introduce yourself in the Discord channel #introductions (if you want).
  2. Review the ClickUp Introduction and follow instructions present there. (DM @cynematic your email for access)
  3. Add yourself to the TC Staff Contact Sheet in the TC Queue (ClickUp).
  4. Read the KQM Staff Guidelines and Strike/Hiatus System Overviews
  5. Learn about the responsibilities of a Editor. (listed below)
  6. Bookmark resources or keep them accessible.
  7. Ask any questions you have in #tc-staff, #tc-editor-staff or #staff-discussion
  8. A member of the Editor team will set up time to walk you through and assign your first task(s).

Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for managing guide work as well as editing/verifying guides.

Editors are currently responsible for:

  • Participating in guide channels, both Staff-only and public.
  • Writing where applicable.
  • Grammar/TC/Calc Verification.
  • Updating guides based on requests in #tc-website-staff and #website-feedback.
  • Completing infographic requests.
  • Alerting Website Editors when a guide is ready for transcription.
  • Updating the ClickUp TC Queue as needed.

Editors are not responsible for moderation, updating the SRL, or website transcription.

Guide Writing

  • Any members of KQM Honkai: Star Rail (hereafter “KQM HSR”), including both TC Staff and non-staff, can submit a guide for publication on KQM HSR.
  • If you want to propose a new guide project, you can make a proposal in the #guide-proposals channel.
  • Alternatively, if your guide is already underway, you can open the ticket directly through the #library-submissions channel (by clicking on the Guide Submissions button).
  • Make a copy of the Guide Template. Fill out the Guide Metadata at the top of the guide, including guide scope and document outline at the top.
  • Pin the guide doc in the ticket, alongside a preface that explains the scope of the project, copied from the Metadata section.
  • Once the guide is written, close the ticket using “/close” and ping verifiers by using the appropriate buttons on the close embed. The verification process is explained in the Verification Process section below.
  • Once a guide has been fully verified, it will be published on the KQM HSR website.
  • Note: KQM does not allow guide tickets for pre-release content.

Infographic Requests

  • Join the KQM Media Server.
  • Make a copy of the infographic request form, then delete the images, and fill out the form.
  • Create a forum post under #art-design-request.
  • Please title the forum post in a simple and direct manner like: “Seele Character Build Infographic.”
  • Ping QCers and implement feedback as needed.
  • When ready for creation, ping @Designer.

Verification

When a guide is complete, guides must undergo the verification process after the guide ticket closes. During this verification period, the guide content should receive thorough review and feedback, and authors should revise the draft accordingly.

A guide is considered fully verified upon receiving the following if applicable:

  • 2x Verification for Theorycrafting Content
  • 2x Verification for Readability/Style
  • 1x Verification for Calculations
note

Any edits done on documents during verification should be done through suggesting and commenting.

TC VerificationWhen verifying for TC content, you should thoroughly review all game mechanics and analytical content. Only after ensuring that all of the TC content presented is factual and consistent and resolving all substantive comments with the author(s) should you click the verification button.
Readability/Grammar Verification
  • When verifying for readability and grammar, prioritize general grammar, clean syntax, and efficient writing. Do not be afraid to suggest rewriting certain sections if they pose a big enough issue, but always respectfully explain your reasoning to the author. Be mindful of the article’s organization, and pay keen attention to humor and authorial injections. You are the final mediator between the author(s) and their readers, and you are the last check against potentially insensitive, unfunny, or embarrassing content being published to a site with millions of readers.
  • This does not mean turning the guide into your own. There is nuance to both respecting the author as well as contributing to the refinement of a guide.
  • Calculations VerificationWhen verifying for Calcs, you should not only make sure that all of the underlying calculations/math check out, but also make sure that assumptions are listed and verify that the assumptions make sense for the purposes of the guide. Do not verify if you are not able to find/are not provided access to thorough assumptions and fully documented calculations.
    • Verifications may be given by any Astral Crew (TC) Staff member, excluding the author(s) and contributors. A single person can give multiple types of verifications (i.e. one person can verify for TC Content, Readability/Style and Calculations) if they are reasonably equipped to do so.
    • Verifiers may retract their verifications at their reasonable discretion. If the quality of a verification is put into question by KQM HSR TC staff, it may be nullified by (other) KQM HSR TC Staff after deliberation. A person's ability to provide certain types of verifications may be withdrawn if the quality of their verifications is repeatedly called into question.
    • To ensure smooth verification, please follow these Guide Standards as closely as possible.
